I still want to know what would of happened if I slowed way down so that the cop riding along side my drivers door was no longer beside me.

I still think it was stupid as other cars (I spotted at least 20) were on each others bumpers doing 60 and about 1-2 seconds behind each other but yet I was not enough to let the cop merge on the highway from the meridan...
I can not begin to guess what that officer would have chosen to do had you done so. Perhaps he would not have pulled over, maybe he would have anyways. I hate to say this because we have to tell people all the time, but just because everyone else was doing it does not make it ok. We can only pull over so many people at once. Your vehicle was the one they targeted and pulled over, it sucks I know. Best to do is live and learn.

Heythere . . . I love this thread! I am looking to apply with the CHP in the next few months. I have the study guild from there websitebut as far as the the actual interview goes, do you have any suggestions. I dont know how different the CHP is from The Police department and especially how difrerent it is in other states but any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
I assume you are referring to highway patrol. Most "most" departments will do what is called an oral board interview. This is where you sit before a group of officers and are given scenarios. They will give you different situations and ask you what you think you should do as an officer. They realize you are not an officer and can only give common sense based answers. Your best bet is to just use your common sense and tell them how you would honestly handle the situation.

Example: You walk into a store where a person in a wheel chair has stolen one item valued at $10.00. The suspect tells you he is a disabled vietnam veteran and apologies for stealing but states he stole the jacket to keep himself warm. The store has reobtained the stolen merchandise with no damage to it. Do you press charges?

Answer: You ask the store if they want to press charges. Most often in such cases they will not because it is not worth going to court over such a little amount. You kindly address the suspect tell him to go on his way and to never return to the store.

Of course I told them arrest him because I though that is what they wanted to hear. They simply explained to me the descretion officer's have in certain scenarios.

I heard that if you needed to pay a speeding ticket and wanted to try to avoid getting it reported to your insurance and the points issued to your license for the ticket, if you send a check in the mail that is about $5 over the actual amount for the ticket, then the police station will send a return of the extra $5 and you do not do anything with that $5 return, then the police station can not send the information to your insurance comany and it does not add points to your license because it is an imcoplete transaction. . . or something like that. If you have ever heard of anything like this any comments or thoughts would be great.

Also if I was pulled over and an officer asked to search the car and I allowed them to with no problem, but the glove box was locked coud the officer force me to unlock and open the glove box or could I refuse him the right to look in it because it was locked from before?
To the first part this is false. Also we do not submit this information to your insurance company. The insurance company has access to MVA records. The violation appears on your record after the court has made a ruling on it. This is to the best of my knowledge, I am not certain on this.

You can refuse the right to search a locked glove compartment IF your registration is not in it. If the reg card is in there you have to unlock it in order to get it out. The trunk is included. Searching the vehicle and searching the trunk are completely separate. This gets a bit "iffy" if you have a hatchback because the trunk area is readily accessible to the driver. Now if a canine indicates on the car, we can search everything. Best thing to do is just give them permission to search the entire car. I don't mind because there is nothing in my car I need to hide and refusing just raises questions. However it is your right to refuse a search provided there is no probable cause to do so.

Wow man this thread is great! you do a real good job with it. another thing is what is the best thing to say to an officer if you've been pulled over and have window tints on your car that are pretty dark to make the car look good but no where near too dark to not see in. And you payed a pretty good amount of money on them very recently and stuff like that.

It's not so much what to say, but what to do. The other day I pulled over a car with 5 percent tints, I pulled him over because his registration was suspended. The driver put all 4 of his windows as far down as they could so that I could see inside his vehicle. People who do this make the officer feel much safer upon approach so we appreciate that. I mentioned his tints, told him to keep putting his windows down when he is pulled over, and let him go.

Not all departments have a Board interview. We didn't have one, we have a normal interview process, and then when you apply to transfer to certain divisions or promotions, you have to have an Oral Board.

Exactly 10 mph and over. They only photograph your rear license plate so you should see them on your passenger side and have time to slow down. I got nailed on Connecticut at Chevy Chase because it was night time and I had no idea they were up. On the street just in front of the cameras are white painted horizontal lines, these are the exact point on the road where the cameras are aimed.

here is a question for you i am in the ems field, and came to a MVA where the driver was suspected of drinking and driving. Now the cops ask us to draw blood all the time for people we transport. this guy refused trans and the cops kept giving him the breath alizer trying to get him over the limit. I was watching and heard them talking about how he kept getting .055 then .070 then .065 then back to .058. How many times can the cops give you that test till you can jsut say enough, cause they were asking and asking if he want to refuse the test. I know what happens if you refuse you are suspended from driving jsut wondering about the other.
