Crisp - any pics?

Brad - I don't think I can ever beat the dog when it comes to waking up early. My dog would hear the smallest noise and it'll be awake to check it out.

Happy Saturday. Having my third cup of the day so far. Beautiful weather but I don't feel like doing anything.

The wife woke up with the dog this morning, so I slept in until 10!

First cup, and the forums.

It's Sunday.

I had one this morning. For some reason it made me really thirsty so I went out and bought some iced teas. Now I'm on my second cup of the day.

I love sitting in my car drinking water.

Happy Monday and Memorial Day everyone. I'm at work for a bit and have been enjoying two cups of coffee so far. For some reason I'm really tired even though I didn't do anything at all this past weekend. Weird.

Justin - How's summer school going buddy? We'll see about Euro Sl,ut. I might consider making it out but I'll be going to Wuste this next weekend. Are you planning on attending? If so, we gotta hang out and meet up.

I'm having an afternoon cup (more like an evening cup, I guess). Thank god it's Friday.
Summer school is taking some getting used to; not so much for the fact that its school during summer, I typically try to keep my brain occupied with learning *something* over the summer every year so I don't turn into a complete dunce with the lack of activity up there, but what's hard with actual summer school now is the classes themselves. I'm in a differential equations class, which is all fine and dandy, but dusting the cobwebs off the grey matter that calculus was stored was an interesting chore; its getting better now though so all will be well in time

As for Wuste, I was fully planning on it IF I had the B7 by then (pretty sure the B5 wont make it for a 800+ round trip mile drive :/ ) but its looking slim that I'll have it in time; I went and looked at another one today that I liked, but I'm kinda on the fence about dropping the hammer on it. I like the color just fine; its the deep sea pearl blue, which really only looks blue in the sun, otherwise it might as well be black, I really like it and outside of a few surface scratches that will buff most of the way out with a good rubbing compound and couple coats of wax, the body is in great shape.

What I'm not sure about is:
-The fact that its a 2007 (iffy year for the cam follower issue; some say audi fixed the problem for that year, others say all they did was redesign the location of the part so it was easier to get at to replace it every 30k-40k miles)

-The fact that its just about to roll 100k miles, which is quite a lot IMO for an 07 and poses a lot of questions as far as maintenance goes.

-The fact that the dealer that brought it in on trade (not an actual audi dealer) doesn't have the original owners manual, so I have no way of knowing if and what of the scheduled maintenance has been done. The timing belt should have been done well before 80k, but I'm not going to trust that assumption when some people claim that you can stretch the tbelt interval to 110k, and the cam follower should have been replaced at least twice by now, but how can I know?

*Side note, do any of you by chance have access to free carfax/autocheck.com records that I could send you the VIN and have it checked out that way (be great to save the 20-30 bucks they charge for that report lol) I ask because a couple of the dealer listings I've looked at that provide the carfax for free, when I click on it to look at it, it details everything that every owner has had it in for, including scheduled maintenance and where the maintenance was done, so if I could track down where the service was performed, I would imagine I could call them up and see if they can tell me exactly what was done.

-Then there's also the fact that there's a couple cosmetic things amiss with it outside of the aforementioned scratches, IE I opened the glove box to see if the owners manual was in there and the whole door just fell on the floor, so the hinge needs to be replaced (which I can't imagine would be that much) and on the little compartment that hides the cig lighter/aux power port, the spring is broken on that so it doesn't open without some good forcing, also not likely an expensive fix.

But, mechanically at first glance without vagcom or highly trained auditech eyes, everything looked great under the hood/carriage. There were no engine leaks, the mounts all looked/felt solid, the suspension/bushings looked good, there were no squeaks or pops or other odd noises while driving, the exhaust smelled normal, shifting was rifle-bolt precise with no lash, so overall I think all that's really a concern is small cosmetic stuff and the lack of maintenance records.

So in all, it doesn't seem like a wholly *bad* deal, and what's wrong with it ultimately is trivial, and I think I can talk them down to $11500 for it, $12000 at most (they're asking $14950) given what's wrong with it and what I know about haggling dealers, but in the end, would it even be worth my effort, or should I hold out and keep looking for lower miles, verifiable maintenance records, less cosmetic hiccups, and a 2008 that is more reputable for no longer having the cam issue?

Yep. Army, 12 years and counting. Welcome to the forums. Stick around, there's a lot of vets in here.
