I'm looking at buying a S4 avant with the 4.2L V8 with 55,000 miles on it. Has anyone had any problems with this engine at a high mileage or heard of any or is it a great engine to put high miles on?

 

I've got 50K on mine so far and no issues other than electrical (windows, headlights)

 

Getting close to 50,000 and ready to take it in for routine maintenance (not sure exactly what should be done and would like some feedback). No major problems to this point....knock on wood.

 

canskibum - I'm at 52,000, bought it at ~42,000 I had a coil go causing a misfire and had it replaced under warranty. Other than that - no problems.

Nathan - I had it in for the 55K tune (a little early becuase warranty expires soon). They do a lot - replace spark plugs, change out all fluids, check filters, brakes, etc. It was $750 to do the complete tune and they found a couple of worn parts that they replaced under warranty (labor was not covered though > ) I wound up spending $1200 becuase I wanted as much replaced as possible under warranty - $800 of that was labor and the rest was parts.
