95.5 Audi S-6 Issues
Not sure where this should go. I am having 2 issues with this car.
One related to a slight surge at low speeds, (far more prevalent when hot) and immediately after shifting into next gear--1-2, 2-3, 3-4, etc...I am thinking MAF, but have carefully cleaned, (MAF spray cleaner), have replaced all coil packs, (updated to 1.8T conversion) and replaced fuel filter. The ecu has never been out of car, (still stock). When initially started, (and when cold start circuit involved) car seems to run fine, but I still sense a very subtle almost vacuumish kind of a hesitation.
Second much bigger issue is that I have a very hard, (as in:no power assist) brake pedal. This all started with a leaky power steering cap at the pump. The "X" cap has an O ring and it was leaking. Pedal was fine all through this scenario. I ultimately got the proper O ring and also then started to feel the pedal getting more difficult. Part of the replacement sequence with a bomb is to pump the braking system free of any assist before changing out by pushing the pedal up to 20 times until rock hard--we did this. After the new bomb was in we followed directions by purging, (bleeding) the rack by turning the strng wheel back and forth to work fluid in and air out. Is there more I need to do as far as bleeding? We believed the bomb to be going, so I replaced--now I'm not sure as nothing has changed, although initially, I could rev the motor, (while driving) and the brakes would intermittently come back with some assist--which tells me that there was some residual pressure being kept, (assist pressure). The bomb is used to retain built up pressure and provide any assist, to the brakes...the actually pressure assist is generated by the PS pump however. So....is this a brake booster, pwr. strng pump, or another bad bomb? I will say that I had to resort to MANY types of sealing methods before being told what part number I needed to seal the X cap on the pwr strng pump. This lead to a chronically leaking pump and we had to use diff pwr strng fluids at diff times. Pentosin is what has primarily been used. Pwr steering feel has never changed at all, so I don't think it is the pump. The clutch is about due, (car has 127,k on original) but still allows clean shifts. (this is amazing since I trained two kids to drive stick with this car).
So...have a slight surge and this very stiff brake pedal--my right leg is about 2X the size of my left now...but that's another issue.
