Default AC problem on my 2001 S4

my AC unit is crazy. Outside temp gauge reads 30 degrees or less and it's really 80 outside. The AC blows hot air. Help?

sounds like you might need a recharge and the ambient air temp sensor is crap.

Yup! Re-charge....had same problem. It blows cool then a burst of hot, then cool and so on. Dont forget to change the cabin filter while your @ it.

have the same problem on my 01.5 s4. doesn't happen very often but at times the exterior temp reads well into the negative digets even though it is 80 - 90 degrees outside. definitely directly affects the AC when its on. however, when the temp reads correctly, AC runs great. might just be a bad ambient temp sensor, and now that fall is just about here, i may wait till next spring, i'd rather have my new exhaust and chip

let me know what you find out if look more into it.

Where do you live?

I'm sure it will be fun when it's -10 outside this winter and your temp sensor reads 90 and blows all kinds of nice cool air inside the cabin

I do know that the 2 temp sensors in the car play a role in whether or not it will allow the A/C compresser to do its job. I forget the details but I would get the sensors tested and the freon in the high and low side. Don't just add freon to the low side and assume you will be ok. Especially if it works on and off like some people have mentioned.

just my 2 cents!

Thanks
