Default b5 s4 serpentine belt replacement advice needed

I am trying to put a new belt on my car but maybe I don`t do something right because I can`t, I loosened the pulley and I am short on the belt,it might be that I am trying it the wrong way,I got the car with the belt cut,so I cannot see the original way,or maybe I need to loosen the alternator as well?any help pointers appreciated
thanks

You should be able to sneak the belt without removeing the front end. Removing it will make things much easier thou. You dont have to loosen the alternator at all. You may not have the tensioner fully tensioned or it may be broken. Possible cause of broken belt. I would also make sure you have the right belt. You may also be routing it incorrectly. Usually its way short or way long when that is the case thou.
