This is an old post so i dont know if you are still having the problem, but i thought i would join just to tell you that i had the same problem exactly and it drove me nuts, have you changed your throttle body boot, if not that is the problem, they rip open, so replace it with a $60 silicone one.

i hope that is it! good luck

I've had it replaced - but they put in one similar (if not identicle to the OEM) much to my chagrin. So its on the block to be replaced - however - if its a problem it sill show a boost leak -no - and this isn't my problem. I'm taking it in next week and they are going to replace my chip (if it doesn't work they will put my old one back) - I don't hink it will work. Thye are going to put in a GIAC chip BTW (vs my current APR). I think the problem is clearly electronic - where either a sensor is failing or it is working - and I'm too hot for some reaosn or another - and it is shutting doen boost. The difference is dramatic and always the same. I also think that maybe I have a turbo that might be getting frozen up or such - and when it frees up I get my full boost back - anyone have any comment. Anyway I take it in next wednesday and any suggestions I'll pass on - including those already made (that I discussed with the tech). He totally discounted it being a fuel injector/fuel pump BTW...he claims that other techs he talked with think its either the chip itself (thus swap out) or its the trubos. But he thinks my turbos are fine -t hat my problems are not at all typical of turbo malfunction. I'm not so sure - and I don't think its my chip...but what do I know really (I don't and its furstrating as hell)

I also am having another problem with a leak in my power steering fluid - continual since I bought the car. Audi has attempted to fix many times under warrenty - and has claimed to have replaced my steering rack - I don't believe themas problem persists. Now that its out of warrenty Audi won't cover me - but says I need a new rack 9anf that it will cost $2000+!)....I've just be refillking (about once a month) - but I hit a pothole the other day and its gushing out now - I refil about once every few days! and my engine is smoking and such - so I'm forced to take care of it....argh - f'in Audi - they owe me IMO and I intend to pursue it - even if I get it replaced 3rd party in the short term.

Anywa any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

lltek makes a D-BOV. i got lazy after reading madibas post and never read the rest

http://www.lltek.com/

click in, go to s4 blow off valves

and it has it there, its a divertor that blows off the extra pressure, u control how much it puts in and blows out

company based outta montreal, canada

lil closer

hope this helps. btw if u got it fixed by audi several times, go back and yell, customer satisfaction is #1. b!tch and yell and cuss and just be like u said you fixed it, yet it still leaking, and then u fixed it again, but it still leaked, wtf are u doing, just makin things worse?

b!tching solves everything

My mechanic has installed a GIAC chip and claims that my problem is fixed....I will get to test it out a bit to see...so we'll see. He aparently has a regular GIAC (1 Bar boost) chip in but will let me swap in a GIAC X (1.2) bar chip - any comments (sounds like a go to me - but he hasn't mentioned price differences...). I'm still skeptical about my boost problem being fixed (but am a bit more hopeful). He said that their shop has stopped dealing with APR for just this reason - chip reliability. He also explained that the APR chip is really just a flash of the stock chip while the GIAC is a whole new beast. I have to admit ignorance of the particulars. Have to say I'm a bit excited to try it though...one if problem is fixed - been driving me nuts...and two if it regularly boosts to 16 lb/ft (versus the 14 I normally got with the APR) - he claims 18-20 with the GIAC X - again any comments on any/all of the above?

I had a 2001 S4 that had an APR chip and exhaust. I never had any problems with it and my dealer always recommended it. I have not heard of GIAC what is it. Also I traded in the S4 and upgraded to the elite of the Audi family in the RS6. APR chip and exhaust installed here too. Only have 18K miles on it but so far no problem with that chip either. Power is phenomonal. From what I have heard going with APR is the best bet. I have never heard of anyones chips going out or anything like that.

Conner - I would agree (except for my current/ongoing experience - and perhaps the jury is still out...) - I have loved my APR chip and never had a thought of swapping it out. I picked up my car this morning and drove it into work - not too much oppurtunity to really streach it out - but when I did punch it I got 14+lb/ft of boost every time. My impression (limited exposure thus far) is that its perhaps not as out and out raucus (or perhaps quite as quick to spool up to full boost) as the APR was - even though it shows about the same - but it seems very comperable. I'm told that there is a software upgrade over what I'm runnig as well and my tech will install it for me (hard to say what if any difference - but we'll see). GIAC has a very good rep BTW (as does APR). So thus far no sign of the boost cap! yeah! If it continues this way looks as if I'm going GIAC - what can I say. I will miss my APR chip though (and my routine of running normal program and not pushing it until everything warms up - then powering up as it were! - etc) - but at this point it seems as if it (the chip) may have been the problem, and according to my mechanic - his shop dropped APR for reliability reasons (whose to know) and he also said that another tech had this exact same issue with an APR chip in an S4 and moving to the GIAC solved his problem as well - thus the rec in my case. He did add that they have had at least one instance of a GIAC chip failing as well. Time (and testing - and I hope to enjoy this part of it!) will tell if it was the chip in my case. Hey and enjoy that RS6 - a beast fer sure!!!!!!

It sounds to me like you have a faulty wastegate actuator rod in one or both turbo's. when there is play in them you'll have erradic under and overboost problems because the wastegate is opening and closing when it is not supposed to. Just about every turbo i've seen fail is due to this. Unfortuneately the wastegate is not serviceable by itself, the turbo needs to be replaced. You can check it by lifting the car and grabbing the actuator rod w/ a long pair of needle nose pliers and see if it moves in either direction with not much effort

eek - well I hope your wrong on this - but I'll check it out. My tech says that these type of boost issues are ussually the turbos but he felt mine were performing well and were not exhibiting the typical symptoms. I have been getting overboost errors however (but we'll see if this continues with the new chip) - obviously if these return I still have a problem. Thanks for the advice - though its not at all what I want to hear (turbo problems...)

Brief update. Just got the car back and it seems to be running Ok - with a caveat. Tech tells me my turbos are leaking oil (I've never notced any great loss of oil) - but definity in the piping a bit and a wee bit of smoke out the exhaust - says perhaps only a matter of time... - but have GIAC X chip in and its a performer - car feels as stong as it used to be with APR last year - maybe even a bit better - boost regularly well over 15-16lbs and approaching 20 at times! My jerkiness apears to have been 2 craked/busted engine mounts! And we replaced 2 EGT sensors (way too $$$ for something like that IMO) - and so far (1 day) we are free of error codes. I also needed a master & a slave clutch cylinders - couldn't even bleed them and peddle was approaching the floor - what a mess - but working great now - hope it holds up....
