Default Buying an S4 - advice?

Was considering a Subaru Impressa, then started looking at an A4, but after inquiring on the A4 boards I found most of the a4 owners recommended I buy an B5 S4.

I am now considering a 2002 S4, 60,000 - 70,000 miles.

What kind of questions should I ask the seller/dealer prior to committing? I hear timing belt replacement is a concern at this time and I heard CV joint replacement is $5000!!!????

Would buying an A4 and modding it make more sense than an S4 as far as maintenance, repairs, and insurance for a guy who will be going to law school in two years?

Any advice you can give an S4 buyer is appreciated.

Default RE: Buying an S4 - advice?

$5k for CV joints? Where did you hear that?
$500 yea, that with labor. The CV's are solid, it's the front outer boots that need to be
replaced, the kit is $25
$5000 is a K04 upgrade!

Yes, the S4 is much more money to own & maintain. But there much faster & more fun.

TKO will be much higher for the S4. SO, maintaince, gas mi, insurance, upgrades, all cost more....
