Yeah there is a picture of this strange orange colored RS-4. But that was all cleared up. Apparrently the gaudy orange color (I called ghetto) is a bad pic. It's really red. People should actually read the entire thread before getting too upset and going in the attack. I guess it's ok to engage in free speech, only if it's "popular", or politically correct speech?

I think people need not to be so politicaly correct. I mean, we all need to be able to laugh at cultural differences. For example, "white men can't jump." I look forward to the day when a white person can tease other races the way whites are alowed to be teased in the movies, in public, by certain comedians, etc., and not be accused of being a racist.

 

Maybe after the "white man" has faced slavery and at least 200 years of racism (blacks--at the hands of whites), having their land taken and relegated to crappy, tiny corners of the country (Indians--at the hands of whites), being placed in relocation camps during WWII (Asians--at the hands of whites), or being limited to minimum wage jobs and called gardeners or landscapers or housekeepers (Latinos--at the hands of whites), can the "white man" speak. What you are asking for, and what you won't f*in get, is the ability to be so comfortable with your oppressive past that you can make jokes about it. And by the way, this isn't an accusation that you are racist--it's an assertion.

 

Curiously you left out Jews, which I am one of, and which most of us are white. It's funny to me that people are ready to exclude Jews from the typical list of begruding minorities who up until only recently faced serious oppression. In my view it is because we are White, and this speaks to an ultimate falacy in the typical argument you happen to be trotting out. When I see white Jews use ethnic humor in a spirited way amongst those who realize they are Jews, the reaction doesn't comport to your claims. Why? Because by and large Jews are successfull whites living in an affluent culture. Nevermind the fact that it was hell to get to this point.

I think minorities of all types should stop using their past oppression as a crutch for their current predicaments. Jews are a great example of a culture that has been persecutated longer than any other, and has been able to rebound without losing their sense of humor. There are countless Jewish comedians who are able to make the kind of jokes about themselves (and indeed tolerate jokes about themselves from other cultures) in a way that other minorities seem to desperately lack. So please, get off your high horse and stop using "White" as if it means anything at all.

 

You answer two issues for me, which I appreciate.

(1) Based upon your reply, you are obviously intelligent enough to divine why the Jews have "rebounded" and the other races I previously mentioned have not. Check the mirror, or cite yourself "Because by and large Jews are successfull [sic] whites living in an affluent culture."

(2) Propose to me how minorities are using their "past oppression" (although thank you for expressly admitting the minorities I mentioned have been oppressed) as a "crutch". Rhetorically speaking, how's the public school system where you live? How's the ratio of white to minority executives? Lawyers? Business owners? How do the cops treat you when they pull you over? Do people look at you differently because you are Jewish? Can people even tell you are Jewish?

I'm sure there are the rogue members of each minority group listed who would rather say "I'm oppressed" than actually work hard--but that's a minority of a minority. And for the record, I used ehinelaw's phraseology of "white man/men"--that was not derived from any feeling I personally have. Hence the quotes.

My only rub with his comments were that he thinks it's ok to just move on because--well--he thinks it's time? Couple that with his blatantly ignorant statements. Maybe I can give him the credit that he's not outright racist. But how much better is someone without knowledge?
