hey im planning on chipping my S4 but i wanted to know what might be the bad side of it before i do. i have a 2000 S4 with 115XXX miles on it. does it matter how many miles i have on my engine?

 

not on the engine... but the turbos, the 2.7 is built like a freaking bomb house, but the turbo's are not, especially at that high of milage I wouldn't be suprised if they were to blow on you soon within the next couple thousand miles without a chip. this is assuming you still have stock turbos

 

defenitely gonna have to upgrade the DV's at bare minimum..
2000 - also want to look into the TBB for any possible tears & change to a samco or APR bipipe

how long have u had the car? how many miles have you put on the car
yourself & how hard have u driven it since owning it??

 

only had the car for about 4-5 months and put a little bit over 1000 miles driving hard not too often....

 

If you only put 1000 miles on every 4-5 months I think you will be good for a while. Look into upgrading the downpipes too to get rid of those restrictive cats, the turbos will thank you.

 

Driving it hard and doing digs with a chip will also make your tranny hate you. I've seen tranny's go just with a chip, just don't get on it every time you drive, racing stoplight to stoplight.

I dont think I've ever heard that. With every car I've ever had it'll always warm up to driving temp, meaning after its warmed up it would be the same temp as if I were driving. Not to mention if you're running synthetic and 91+ octane it really shouldn't add any more deposits than if you were driving. But I'd be interest to find out if that were really true

 

It is true that if you let your car warm up for fifteen minutes it will be same temperature as if you were driving it around most of the time unless it is extremely cold out. BUT it takes more time for it to warm up at idle then if you were just driving it really easily and letting it warm up . The old days the pistons would expand much more then the new designs and materials thus when you drove the car right away cold the piston could expand much faster then the cylinder and possibly cause scoring and siezure. Even in your manual it suggests not warming up car very long but rather driving very nicely to warm it up. Also benefit of that is that all your other fluids warm up at same time and when you engine is warm so is your transmission and differentials rather then just getting into it with a warm motor and cold tranny fluid. In the dakota's it gets cold and on a below zero day it is better to warm up car for a while cause the temperature differnce between a cold motor and warm one is pretty extreme. Just my 2 cents
