Either your clutch is busted, or a connection from your shifter and your clutched is broken somewhere, there is another thread here by jaybquick that had a similar problem i believe, check that out...

https://www.audiforums.com/m_132391/tm.htm i think thats the post he was talking bout. How many miles u have on there? Last time u replaced the clutch? I would say go to the tranny first, b/c it doesnt sound like the clutch. I think some shift linkage might be broken? Maybe the actual shifter and not the transmission. Open the shifter up an dtake a look.

This would be my guess from the symptoms.

I do have 42K ml on it I'm the second owner and the cluch has never been replaced so far. All this problem started like this: I was out of country for 3 months (business trip) I had some nice times in Europe but I have missed my s4, so when I came I took it for a ride. I didn't push to hard on the car at all. Just some random speed increses. Next few days had to be out of town and when I came back I tryed to shift in 1 gear and had some troubles, but I was able to shift later on with some troubles again, I drove the car a little on my street and saw that it is not easy on shifting. I have parked next to my house and start shifting into gears and here I noticed that it is not shifting in reverse, after some time it did shift in Reverse but that was the last time it happened. After that only 1,2,3,4 gears are shifting with some push, 5th 6th and reverse not getting into shift at all.....NO CLUE how to react, I have read a lot so far, and have checked the linkage after I took apart the shift boot, everything in there looks fine, no losened bolts or nuts, everything look tightened. SO guys I know I can go to the dealer, but I'm a handy man, have done lots of mecanics on my old 300zx, my present 350z, and S60R, sop please point me at the right direction. Maybe someone can post pdf file from service manual on this kind of symtoms....PLease help....Tnanks to those who already replyed to my first thread.....
I don' thave SS, it is all stock so far....but give me some time....and let me resolve this issue and I'm going shoping....

Dude, your tranny is shot!

I had mine replace under warranty. It's not a common problem, but it does happen on occasion.

I hope you're still under warranty, your looking at about $7,000.00 at the dealer.

JayBQuick did his own for a couple thousand I believe, maybe you should write him.
