compression test

compression test
So with my cylinder #2 misfire issue. I called the local shop to get a diagnose of my electrical system. Its 95 bucks, but does not include a compression test. So should I do a compression test before I bring it to the shop to tell me that my ICMs are bad (Im 90% sure), but want to be exact before I start buying parts. So my question is, is the compression test just done my replacing the plug with the tester and turning the car over or let it run?

quick and dirty just pull the fuse for the fuel pump, turn the car over a couple times to burn the extra fuel in the lines and you're good to go. the norm for a compression test is 4turns of the engine. its best to have a battery charger hooked up so each cylinder gets the same amount of cranking power for the most accurate numbers

so your paying 95 bucks for a diagnosis .. but.. if its not fuel or ignition, they ARENT going to find out the problem??? where im from a diag is a diag.. maybe you should ask for a drivability diag... includes fuel pressure test, compression test and ignition test.. i hope they know what they are doing.. and anyways.. every real technician knows the first step in drivability diag is making sure everything is mechanically sound before looking into fuel or spark.. so a diag should include a compression test.. or a cylinder leakdown test or a car running vacuum test..
