Does S4 Tiptronic Tranny fits on A4 (2.8 30v quattro)
Hi! I recently blown my tiptronic tranny on my A4 '98 2.8q. I am looking to get a new one but I got an idea... What if I get an S4 tranny with the complete sterring column and get by the same time the shifter on the sterring...
Why I want this?
- I gess S4 tranny is more durable because its built for more engine power.
- I would pass from 5 to 6 gear (very economic on highway)
- I would get the shifter paddle on the sterring wheel
- I am planning to get it supercharged this summer by PES so I need a tranny that can take the gain of HP
My question is simple, is it possible? I mean theses to engine are similar size so I gess they are positioned the same way in the A4 and in the S4... So i guess the tranny can fit with no problem?? and about the electric part of the tranny... Is it hard to make the conversion? Does I really need to change the cluster because mine will not show the 6th gear?
Can I still chip the tranny with GIAC stuff? (using S4 chip)
what is the best way to put the steering shifter paddle to my car without changing the complete column?
If anyone has done this before I would like to be redirect to that person or any thread about my situation.
thanks in advance!

i dont think they bolt up...
they arent that strong either. i blew my first tip tranny on stock tubos and tune. the steering wheel paddles arent that great as well. if they were behind the wheel the would work, but since theyre on the front it makes them awkward and annoying.
do a manual sawp from an a4. there is a person with a 2.8 a4 that has an s4 6-speed manual swap. max at 034 motorsports. heres the build:
Max@034's B5 A4 V6 Build Thread - 6 speed swap, turbo soon, etc
p.s. research the pes system before you purchase it. they dont have that good of a rep in the 2.8 world.....from what i hear.

Even with a PES and any mod possible for que 2.8q i'll never get the torque of a stock S4... I'm planning doing something around 250hp not more... so I guess the tranny would be stronger than the A4 one... maybe i'll forget about the steering wheel shifter.. it seems hard to do and as you said its not so great...
I dont really have the money to make a complete manual convertion... for this price i'll buy an other A4 lol...
All I want is to get my A4 back on the road and the S4 tranny seems a good alternative considering my future plan for this car...
I just need to know if this fit in my car without a lot of homemade tweaking stuff
And if i can get this done without getting the steering shifter
