Default dying driver info screen

the red LCD info screen in between the tach and speedo seems to be dying on my car. Not all of the pixel lines light up, and as I drive the car, the display fades around the edges. My guess is that it overheats? How big of a PITA and how expensive is this to fix? Its not a major problem, just annoying.

normally its a full replacement ( how do you clean it? ) if you spray fluid on it it will damage the connections and a new unit will be required

when I say cleaning I mean to you spray the dash with cockpit cleaner? over pray causes the display to fail because it get into the wiring and the contacts on the LCD, heat is also a problem in this area and it lifts the contacts on the screen ( worth a check if a recall was issued on this ) because its a well known problem and if the car is under warranty it should be covered

I got quoted at $1000 at the stealership. $700 for the cluster and $300 for labor.
