Default Grinding into Reverse

What's happening:
[ul][*]Grinds into reverse and then 1st on cold starts.[*]Rarely if ever grinds into first after running[*]Hard to get into First from a stop sometimes requiring a double-clutch.[*]Second sometimes goes Zzzzzzt when shifting hard and fast from First.[*]Clutch is being replaced right now. (It was slipping) [/ul]
I've searched the forums and suspect the 1st gear Syncro (Whatever that is).

They're starting on the clutch today. Should I have them do the Syncro too? This indy transmission shop doesn't know Audi's to well so I didn't want to ask them to check out the syncros.

It could the 1-2 shift collar and syncromeshing. Its not going to get any better, and if it does eventually become un-drivable you will have to pay to take the transmission out again, but honestly it dosnt sound like much of a problem right now. I probably wouldnt worry yet.

I know if I let my car roll back in neutral and try to put it into reverse I will get a small grind before it goes in. I figured it was some wierd safety thing to keep me out of going into first while drifting back.

Yeah I had that problem with my S4, the guys here said try sliding it in 3rd first and then sliding into reverse. As for the shifting i would takecare of that now if you shift hard into 2nd and get the zzzzzzt noise that you are talking about(great way to explain it by the way) too many times then you will NOT get the trans in 1st or 2nd and its not fun to pay for it to get removed again, in my opinion go with stasis getting mine in 2 days but you WILL have problems down the road if you dont take care of it now

Sounds like you got the wrong fluid in that transmission.

sorry for stealing the thread, but i have what sounds like a similar problem when i do a hard shift into 2nd. i was thinking it was just because it was a longer shift than the others and that a short shifter might help me out with that. do you think it would? or is there going to be some syncro work down the road? i hate transmission work so i tend to be very unfailiar with it.
