Default Hello! New Member, S4 questions.

Well, first off hello, I am a serious car enthusiast, and like all cars. My signature shows my current ride, an 05 350z, but latlely I have been wanting something different.

My first car at 16 was a black 1995 3000GT Vr4, I had soooo much fun for the 2 years I had it until I got the Z. The Z is awesome, absolutely one of my favorite cars, but I kind of want turbos again, and the clean 4 door sedan bug is biting....I was thinking about maybe STi, or Evo, but no way, I'd rather Single Turbo the Z then spend money on those cars, but my friend is going to be selling his white 01 S4 with a little over 30K miles on it, not modded for a great price. I think I want it

I drove an 04 S4, and the ride was superb. Acceleration was great as well, but I prefer turbo cars to powerful v8's, not that they are bad (because they ARE badass) but just preference. I havent driven his s4 yet, but is the ride comparable? I know I am going to be wanting to lower this car quite a bit, not slammed, but a nice low drop thats still practical.

1. What are the best springs to buy to accomplish an even drop, and would I still be able to fit 18-19 inch rims without tucking? My Z with its 19s sits perfectly just over the tires, and they are flush with the fenders, this is what I could like to do with the S4, so maybe a 19x9-19x9.5 rim and 255/35 tire would work to make it flush? Advice appreciated.

I also like the RS4 bumpers I have been seeing on ebay, are there any other front bumpers out there that arent to over the top? The RS4 bumper is pretty clean, so is stock, but I would like to add just some subtle touches to make it my own, He has some blacked out headlights and the badgeless grill ready to be installed.

2. So any clean body kits out there with good fitment?

I know I would like to add a chip to it, whats the best one? I would mind opening up the exhaust either, maybe a downpipe and free flowing exhaust, are there any dual exhaust kits?

3. Best places for performance parts.

I REALLY appreciate any help, and am glad to be a part of this forum/community. Thanks in advance!!

Well... first off welcome. you have a nice ride there. Always been a fan of the Z. And id much rather see you turbo the Z than go to an Sti or evo. Stock for stock, a 04 will be quicker than your buddies.. but prob wont feel as fast. the torque you get from turbos is awesome. And if you chip it, it will be great. then upgrade the turbos.. and youll be in love.

Too answer your questions. Theres many options for suspension. Stasis makes some decent stuff. tein coilovers are good. for wheels, IMO 19 is usually too big for s4.. but ive sene some that look good. And you can experience rubbing issues on the fenders on some 19's. 8.5 width is probably going to be your widest fit 9 in back is possible but again you need exact fitment. ive also always heard to keep the width the same and not go staggered wiht the quattro, but some do.

with bumpers, theres the OEM rs4 bumper. which is awesome, but very pricey. for a slightly cheaper option there is a reiger rs4 bumper that looks pretty good as well. reiger also makes a "body kit" so to speak. they have the rs4 rear bumper and side skirts. you cna go to lltek's website and they have kits as well... but most people dont htink they look to good, if you wnat a body style, do rs4.

chips.. I think chips are all pretty similar. but everyone will prob tell you which is their favorite. GIAC and APR are probably the most popular. people say that giac will give you most power but youll lose on it being a harsher ride. APR is a bit more smooth but still good power.. and people say MTM isnt as powerful, but most reliable. i think its all a horse a piece really.. you can still tune it to your fit. my suggestion would be to see which dealers are closest to you and go with that.."Theyre all deadly".

best place for parts... i dont really wnat to dig up the links.. but just search on this forums.. it was posted here not that long ago. Searc h the net, youll find some and look at other forums and their sponsors like audizine, and audiworld. but good sites are awetuning, pure motorsport, ecs tuning, and europrice

Some of these should help. I would say if you are going to get a chip find which ever dealer is closest. You’re most likely going to find APR or GIAC like he just said. Those are the two biggest names. AWE and APR are both really good sites, I would check those.

this in no way answers your question but i would like to ask; why do you like turbo more than na? because the lag? because the sound? im not really trying to sound like a *****, but if two cars have the same attributes accept for engines which both produce similar hp and torque bands, why is the turbo better in your mind? and personally, never driven a bi-turbo s4, so i can't compare, but audi tuning can't be wrong. i drive (to my friends in the states) a damn family truckster and yet since they haven't seen an audi avant up close or ridden/ driven an s4, they have no idea. good luck on the change over. think about why you want the 4 over 2 door. the audi is a fantastic feel inside. everytime i get in i look around and smile, the feeling is that great, really. think about how much you want to dump into the mods, repairs. will you be driving this daily or will it be a weekend at the track car or both? you've said you had/have two nice cars to play with so far, are you looking for a car to last you a while through the next 5 or 6 years with "life changes" expected or anticipated? if you like the turbos 'cause you like the turbos, look for the b5 s4. if you got the money to hit up a b7 s4, don't hesitate. this car is wonderful. and still being fairly new, no one has made mods for it. remember, na doesn't mean it's done after production. i'm probably wrong so correct me please, but modding a turbo means modding more parts of the turbo system, ie. diffuser, waste gate. i don't see how changing more parts makes thing A better than thing B if thing B doesn't require all those parts.
