Default Immobilizer System???

I just finished the install of the engine and tranny (along with a long list of other things) in my '01 S4. Any comenent or wiring foreign to me was tagged to aid installation. Now with everthing buttoned up, it will not turn over. When the ignition is turned on you can hear the various sensors and components cycling. Did the immobilizer system immobilize the car?
Any help is appreciated.

Mike

After doing some reading, I'm thinking that maybe some of the ECM connections need to be checked. I'll be in the garage tonight.

should just be two plugs, be sure the little tab deals on the outsides of the plugs are pushed in. Then give the plug a little tug to make sure it's seated properly.

Immoblizer wan't used until 02, even if it were the immobliizer it would still start and run for about a second then die. Its gotta be a wiring connection problem somewhere. Are the connections to the starter and battery tight?

I'll be checking the connections at the starter this weekend as those connections are last I have to check (I now suspect it there). Thanks for replying. I'll inform when I fix it--too much work until friday.

Alright, everything is hooked up correctly. I've found that the small wire on the starter does not get a voltage signal at all (even when attempting to crank). I'm suspecting the starter relay or park/neutral safety switch. The starter relay is in the box where the ECM is right? What about the park/neutral safety switch? Is it under the center console or on the tranny itself?

So, I got the car to start up by shorting out the starter relay. The starter relay does not get power and I get the P0706 code. This code says the transmission range circuit is malfunctioning and also on the dash the gear indicators shows that the transmission is in drive (although it is in park). What should be my next course of action?

Alright, everything is in good working order. The P0706 code was for the multifunction switch. I did not have it completley connected. Oh well, easy fix.
