Looking to Buy B5 S4
Hey Guys, I'm a 17 y.o kid looking to replace my current Dodge Dakota Sport for a S4. I've read a bunch here on these forums and even the FAQ. It helps out but I still have a few questions. There is this one one silver S4 that I'm lookingat pretty heavily around me. Its got 76k on the odometer and I'm concerned with that. For it being a 2001 that seems a bit high but then again I see some of these with 130k+.on them. This one is a single owner and its a Tiptronic so I have a feeling that it has lived an easier life than some that are a manual trans. I did check a few things like the rubber boot on the turbo's and those look sa though they have been replaced, maybe at a 60k tune-up.
Like I said, its a single owner that seems to have taken very good condition of it. The dealership it's at is asking $16,995 but I'm hoping to work it down to $16,000. I will be trading in my Dakota which I think I should be able to get $8000 for since it is excellent condition and has a chip tune, Flowmaster 40 series, and a cold air. Do you guys think this is possible or am I trying to go too low. Remember I'm a 17 y.o kid so my limit is kinda low. $16,500 is going to be about it.
I took it for a test drive yesterday and aboslutely fell in love with it. Plenty of power and the interior is very nice.
Let me know what you guys think. I added some pics of it below.

Thanks,
Jeff

Yea I'm hoping to bring them down but I don't know if they will give the the $8000 for the Dakota like I'm hoping for.
As far as the age thing and the car itself, I know thats what a bunch of people say but I've been driving since I was about 12 so I have more experience than most 17y.o's. I've driven my friend's S4 many times and although it is very powerful and you can get into trouble I seem to stay outta it. I also have driven many 911's and 911 Turbo's.
I'm still taking some advice on the purchase though.

I figure that for the insurance I'll have it under my mom's name and I'll just pay for it through my parents so I don't think I'm going to get killed on that one since she's a 52 y.o with a clean record.
But as for me driving for a while, I started out with mopeds at 12 then progressed up to 125cc scooters at about 13 then my dad and I bought a 1975 Porsche 914 that I started to drive when I was 14. As long as you aren't stupid around cops you don't get pulled over. Especially when your dad is sitting next to you...

hey i def agree man, I started driving go-karts at 9, goin 75 around a track is really fast for a little kid, not to mention all of the ATV's and snowmobiles that I have takin on the road. (gotta love mountain laws durin the winter, totally legal to do that and I have yet to see a cop who can do 90 in the snow covered streets). so I like to think I am a better than average driver, I also have drivin a Acura NSX anda porshe boxter. So I would say go for it.
with the insurance, that is def the way to go, it keeps it way cheap. I would look at lots of the rubber seals and stuff like that, when I got my audi it ended up being another 4 grand in repairs cuz tons of the seals had dry rotted. That was just with the car sitting, i would just look for stuff like that.
and with the truck, good luck on gettin that much, a mom across the street sold her 2003 van just a few months ago, kelly blue book said it was worth almost 11 grand. the dealer gave her 4, so just be careful there, I would sell it on the side.
hope this helps

Yea so I just got back from the dealer. He said he would give me 4500... [:@] So now I'm thinking that I'll end up getting a bit of help from my dad on paying for the S4 upfront then sell off my truck privately. God 4500??? seems so low. Especially since the blue book is about 8300.
Some of me is thinking about trying to find a private seller around me. Only problem is when I look on autotrader or cars.com it comes back with like 2 results that arent what I'm looking at. The ones with 100k+ on them. I'm hoping for a sub 75k. So if anyone in the N. Virginia/DC/Maryland area has a Tiptronic S4 lemme know please.
Well I guess I'm off to feel sad tonight. God I would love to get one of these soon.
