Need Input! Possible S4 I'd like to buy.
So I found this 2001.5 S4 B5 with 58.5K miles on it. It's black on black (which is my second choice only to the nogaro blue w/ alcantara interior). The asking price is $19,999.00; this seems a little steep and it is being sold by a dealership. I asked if the price was nogotiable and he said that the manager got it as a trade in for a newer one and that they are very firm on it. Can someone give me some feedback? Is a 2001.5 w/ 58.5K miles worth 20K or should I wait? [>:]
I highly doubt they are FIRM, but they know you want it, & will pay.
I'd say look around your area with Autotrader & Graigslist, & see what others are going for. Personally, $15-18 depending on condition & records.

I know if I go there for a test drive it they're going to smell blood and start pitching to me. I'm torn between waiting until I find the Nogaro Blue 2001.5 a/ alcantara or buy a black on black 2001.5; whats the likley hood of me finding one within the year? Meh! Decisions Descions... Why couldn't I just have been born wealthy!?
you have to be strong, go in there and offer 17 or 18... and when they counter offer, take it or walk...
I can only image they bought the car for 12 to 13 grand and are looking to make 5 to 7 grand profit.

That's about right (a tad high) for a dealership. But don't believe they won't negotiate. I'd offer them $18,000 out the door. That would put the selling price at about $17,000. If you want it, make that offer, if you don't want to settle, then wait. I am very picky and I have been searching for the perfect S4 for 5 months now. I don't care. It took me 8 months to find a 4th generation Maxima with ABS brakes and all the other stuff I wanted. But I found it. I trust I'll find the perfect S4 too. Good luck.
I'm a sales consultant for a highend car dealership. They probably brought the car in for a lot less than that. Go in there with maybe a edmunds or kelley blue book value sheet for ammo.Try and build the car to the one they are selling.Notsure what the car books for but that is a good starting point. Don't show them the sheet until you sit down and talk price. When they won't budge on price bust that sheet out. Hopefully it is a lot less than what they are offering. Basically you have to be strong. They are just looking for a serious buyer and commitment. They might try and get you off of the price and negotiate on monthly payments if you are going to finance. What you can afford. Don't pay much attention to the monthly. Just the price of the car and interest rate on the loan. At a dealership you usually have to pay tax, license, and doc fees which would be around $1400.00 give or takedepending on the tax rate. If you are not happy with the price you have to just walk. From a dealership standpoint they have to decide if they want the sell now or do they want to take a chance and crack somebody later. If they think they can get that price for it, they will justlet you walk but chances are they won't.
Not knowing what kelley blue book is, If they are asking $19999, I'd shoot for $16000 out the door. Just look at blue book dealerretail and shoot for that. Good Luck.

Thank you for your input; turns out that they won't budge lower than 19 thousand... I even showed them my laptop with a few cars for sale (2 of which were exactly the same) and pointed out how the "ASKING" was 17.5; but they would not budge. As I headed to the door some guy caught me in the lot and put the people he was talking to on hold for a second and said come back in 2 weeks, if they didn't sell it, they will be looking to get rid of it since it is the oldest audi on the lot by 3 years, then he continued trying to sell this couple a newer 2005 A4. Veeeery interesting.
yea listen to what these guys are saying they seem to know a thing or two. i just got my 01.5 for $10500 with 96k so yea $20k for 58k miles seems a bit steep. however mine was private seller. just dont settle for something thats not perfect to you.
Just to help you, I got mine for 17 grand with 35k miles Silver/Alcantera (H&R's, and E-Codes) after searching for over a year... i got a very good deal in my opinion. I would say take $17,500 for it and no more. That way you are getting a good deal, and making them think about it. Hope this helps, and Good Luck!!!!
