Oil Leaks
I was wondering how many of us have had oil leaks. It seems to be a pretty constant thing with the S4 in high miles. Mine is currentley in the shop with an oil leak and a few other things.
But where were most of your leaks coming from? Hard to fix and how much did it cost?

the most common spot, is a leak from either the turbo or the turbos oil line....thats real expensive, unless you can wrench.
second most common, head gasket leak....also very expensive, unless you can wrench.
hopefully its just a small leak around the oil pan or something like that...easy fix.
hopefully you are at an independent shop, and not a stealership....they will just want to rip you off, and do thousands of dollars in unecessary "repairs". DONT LET THEM!!!!!!!
Good luck

Ya I am at a little independent shop. The oil leak is coming from the crank seal, which is pretty much ruined my timing belt. Warranty wont cover the timing belt bc I cant prove that it had been replaced at 80k bc i didnt own it then. So I am getting the oil leak fixed and the timing belt job and water pump done for $644. Not bad, although it could have been better if the warranty people werent stupid. They wouldnt replace the belt until it breaks anyways, so then they would have to get me a whole new motor. Makes no sense.
I am leak free other then the oil i burn after i push her kind of hard and cooler her down in the driveway, with the hood up. I also use seafoam from time to time and seems to help me keep the sludge out also.
My '01.5has 78k on it and it has just developed an intermittentburning oil smell coming through the vents. You can alsosmell it when standing around the front of the car, still off an on though, not all the time. I took it to the "stealership" (love that haha) along withthe MIL on and they said it was my oil temp sensor (even though it was working just fine)and the smell was probably coming from that. I don't like hearing the word "probably" when I'm dropping almost 160 bucks for a temp sensor swap that I should have done myself.
Well, two weeks later and I'm still smelling it from time to time. I keep a close eye on my oil level and it doesn't budge between oil changes.
And Brandon, 644 bucks for all that work is an awesome price. I'm due for a T-belt and I just hope I can find a local shop willing to work on it (or have worked on them before). Lots of them are scared of these in my area. Maybe I should have bought a tractor.[:-]
