Default possible major transmission problem!

so the other day i was coming home from work, and all of a sudden the transmission wouldn't shift into reverse, 1st or 2nd, i've barely had the car a week and haven't noticed any problems, i took it to the dealer they think its internal, obviously VERY expensive. they said they were able to adjust the linkage to get reverse to work, but the reverse lock out hasn't worked since i got the car and even after the adjusment it still doesn't. anyone have any ideas?!?!? and if you guys think its internal also anyone know a good shop in socal, orange county??? thanks

Sounds like the syncros are going out. Kind of common.

You might get by a little longer if you change the trans fluid, and when you do change it, look to see if there is any metal shavings in there.

Might also bee the tranny/motor mounts. For a day my car was difficult to put into first and REv and impossible to put into second. Then foudn out the motor mounts were shot and was causing misalignment.

hey guys thanks for the suggestions, they're taking it apart today i'll find out for sure tomorrow, as far as motor and trans mounts, is there a really good way to see if they're good or should it be fairly obvious, they're liquid filled right? so if they blown there should be a leak or sometihng right?

The 1-2 shift collar locks up on these cars. Usually from missing gears. So tell us the real story of what you did.

I rebuilt mine myself when I first got mine, was having too much fun, plus most aftermarket shifters and stock shifters suck on our cars.

6 speeds are know for having shift jerks bettween 1st and 2nd

JAYBQUICK, I have to ask, how long, how dificult was it to re-build your tranny. Did you already have some mechanical knowledge before a project like this. Also you have a sick car.... Time to reduce the weight and add a 150 wet shot of NOS, and you'll be in the 10's....beating 11secs4

No NOS or weight reduction, it is my Daily Driver. The next possible changes will be drag radials and a VAST Performance home brew setup.

I have been wrenching since I was 15 and was an ASE Master tech for 6 years. I still hold my certs.

Here is the tranny about 1/2 way apart.
