Question to S4 Owners
I am brand new to this forum, and was wondering If an 02' S4 with 48,000 is a good price for 17,500. I offered the dealer this. The car is also for my girlfriend. She wants something fun, So I thought that this would be the car for her. Awd and Bi-Turbo seems fun to me. Also, How are the S4's with having problems and what not. Its an autostick not a manual. Also, how is insurance for these cars.. Super expensive or what. I didnt think it could be too much do to the fact that it is AWD and 4 door, But on the other hand do they classify it as twin turbo or just bi-turbo .. Any help would be much appreciated. Im going to look at the car at 5Pm today.
Thanks a ton

Insurance is high because cost of repair is high because parts are high. That car could be a terrible deal or a good deal. When you drive it, consider the following: (1) are you constantly pulling to the right b/c you think an ambulance is coming? (2) is getting into 2nd gear tougher than making an effort to search the forums on this site? (3) is the suspension creaking more than a old wooden bridge?
If you answer yes to any of those, I'd probably say skip. I'd probably say skip anyways, b/c this car is for your girlfriend. Buy her a Jetta (or something), and save both of yourselves the potential headaches. This is a car for the passionate.

I realize that the cost is high for work on this car. On the otherhand I am very savy with cars and I put my own turbo's on my last 2 cars, So problem is not working on them. I will also be driving this car as well. But mainly for her daily driver. Now, what if it was possible to work out extended warrenty on something like 3 yr bumper to bumper. Or something like that.. I mean.. Would it then be worth the money if it is mechanically sound?
i think that sounsd pretty good for year and mileage... Insurance isnt necessarily all that bad compared to other sporty cars.. But it helps because of its safety precautions and a sedan.
hard to comment because the UK insurance is very different ( the more the excess you pay the lower the cost ) so that means you fix your car and don't tell them[:@] bit of a con really you might as well have third party only with them rules

also, putting a turbo on a honda is alot different than an s4. im pretty sure you have to remove the engine the replace the turbos in s4's.
the deal sounds ok, but the maintainance cost is the real issue. i've been slingin wrenches for years and have worked on several car lines, including vw, and my s4 is possibly one of the most difficult cars to service (even tougher if you dont have access to a lift) and like brad said ^^^ engine does have to come out to replace turbo, or the cradle needs to be dropped. insurance isnt terrible unless you have any prior violatins that hang around like an unpaid bill (cough, cough). just remember it's a tip, waaaay not as fun as a stick. i say if you want a good, fun daily driver for you woman, look at a wrx or something of that nature. less expensive, cost of repair is far less, waaaaay easier to work on, fewer problems, cheaper insurance, and still awd. save the s4 til you can afford to beat the crap out of it and keep it mint...but thats just what i would do
