rear wheel bearing replacement
any one know where i can find instructions to replace a rear wheel bearing on my 01 s4 avant? instructions with photos would be nice. i think i can figure it out, but its been a good 10 years or so since i've done one.
Just if you didn't know, you will need a 10 ton press and a torch to take them out
cause they're press fit and thay are a PITA to take out. Personnaly, that's the kinda
task im giving to my mech. But if you have the right tools, go for it !

That's why I love working at a shop with whatever I need. Anyhow, yep should have a press or just take the whole spindle off and take it to a shop. Probably charge like 25-35 to press in a loose bearing instead of the 100-150 they want to do the job.
DIT procedure
1. put the new bearing in the freezer
2. remove the knuckle
3. heat the knuckle and pound out the bearing over a bench vise or the like w/ a hammer and a big heavy duty socket
4. heat the knuckle a bit more and grease the frozenbearing a little
5. drop the frozen bearing into the knuckle and be sure its seated. allow it some time for the temperatures to adjust
6.put it back together and beat the crap out of it.\
