Rear wheel bearing replacement: what's the trick for...
I just replaced the rear left wheel bearing on my 98 A4 2.8 Quattro. For $37 I got a local shop to press the bearing into a bearing spindle I bought. Then, just switched it out with the spindle on the car.
Now I need to replaced the passenger side wheel rear bearing.
Question: What is the trick for removing that pesky nut on the lower/rearward control arm? The bolt spins with the nut. I saw a DIY that recommends using a u-clamp on the ball joint, and I tried that, but it didn't work (maybe I was doing it wrong). Ended up cutting the nut off.
Also, I have a rear left spindle with ABS sensor for sale in the wheels-suspension classifieds forum, if anyone is interested.

I have a set of channelock pliers that spent time with my bench grinder to narrow the jaws so I could clamp down on the shaft of the ball joint. Sometimes an impact wrench can blow the nut off, especially if you spray it with PB and wire brush the corrosion off the threads as much as possible.
