Ok, I was driving home from Canada back to Ohio a few weekends ago and my S4 started to dump coolant out from one of the hoses...got towed the entire way home and am now finally going to attempt to figure out where the leak is. It pours out with the car not running, so I guess it is safe to assume it is not the water pump. I am looking for any help to try and diagnose where the leak is in the most efficient way possible. What to remove first, what to check first, etc... Thanks, Paul (330) 361-9249 text, call, pm or email

if the car is dumping from a hose just pour in some coolant and look under to see where its coming from. It probably just popped loose, at least I hope its that simple.

found the leak...what is it???
Ok, I found the leak it is directly underneath the intake manifold in the center of the engine...where is the aux water pump? Is that what this is? Or is this just some sort of plastic flange...any way of getting around taking the intake manifold off? I will try and post a picture of it.

yes that is where the aux water pump is. you have to take off the intake manifold and throttle body to get to the aux water pump. i bought the replacement pump and gaskets at ecs.

While you are in there, check to be sure it isn't the coolant pipe o-rings leaking, they can seem like the aux pump. There are 2 of them under the intake and have o-rings at the front where they go into the block, as well as another on the left side pipe at the joint to the coolant manifold on the rear of the heads. To fix this you need 5 o-rings total (3 of one kind and 1 each of the other sizes). These are a semi-common leak point, and will leak a lot of coolant, sometimes suddenly while driving the car (have seen it just run out on the ground as you pour coolant in the reservoir). Unfortunatley, the o-rings are a pain in the you know what to repace. Just something to keep in mind while you're in there.
