S4: too freaking fast
My S4 Scares the crap out of me! It just seems like it has endless power! Acceleration is so quick at times It frightens Me! and once your in the power band any blip on the throttle and you're gone!....CAR is freaking Awesome I love it!!! I have a K40 and it has saved my *** many times!
Glad to read all the responses.
I could try it out on the track, but I would not look forward to the cost of tires, brakes, and potentially costly repairs. I can see the allure of track days, but I guess I basically don't have a huge desire for speed. I enjoy it, but wouldn't spend the money or take the time away from family and other hobbies to race on a track. I should try it at least once to see how I really like it.
The car doesn't scare me, although I do like to call it a beast. It just has more power than is needed, here.
And now I realize that perhaps my main point is about speed limits, and not the car. My wife is German, and over there things are so different. The speed is not a big deal, IF conditions allow. Yes, I had my wife and young daughters in the car going 110 on an open stretch of interstate in the middle of the afternoon. And I think it was as safe if not safer than going 60 in heavy traffic or inthe rain at night. If I were driving over there, and didn't mind paying for the fuel, the S4 would simply ROCK. But in America, at least in the East coast where I am, I still don't get the point. Rocketing to 60 in 5 seconds is fun I suppose. And having a huge reserve of power, great brakes, handling, and quattro makes it a very safe car. So if you have the money, and don't think burning extra gas is a terrible thing, than I suppose why not get the S4. But I'd just rather be able to actually use more than 10% of it.

what i'm about to say may be a bit strange...but borrow someone who has a noticably faster car than you for a couple weeks and only drive that...then go back to your s4...you may drive a bit slower....maybe not...i drove my 92 s4 slowish because i didnt feel that i was ready to drive it pedal to the ground yet...now i just do some easy driving..let other people watch me enjoy my audi...but then again i do my fast driving on a road course with my 1980 purpose built scirocco with about 200bhp and 210ftlbs of torque...11.5:1 compression on a 2.0 16v with itb's...loads of fun
It was always fun going up in power... i.e. stock to chip, chip to piggies etc. but stage 3 is just a whole new level. Some asshat tried to mess with me on the pike at about 65mph, so I just tapped the gas, and by the time I looked at the spedo I was doing 140.
Yeah, I seriously can't even believe how you guys with Stage IIIs maintain some sort of composure. Not that the stock B5 S4 is really fast, but on the highway the power is just so linear. Even if someone tries to mess with you in 5th (I've got a TIP) you just ease into the gas, and you're gone. That's why these cars are much faster than they feel. The power is just so smooth and non-peaky that you have no idea how you just got from 75 to 105.

I know what ya mean for shure o often end up tripple digits during daily driving or passing the roads are really currently awful so its not
to bad of a problem and i have summer tires on still ughh
have fun and be safe
