while coming home one night from a friends house after clearing his headlights, he "was doing 25 mph around a blind curve when 3 deer were running across the road. he swirved, shifted from 2nd to first and the over corrected locking up all 4 brakes when he lost control and went up an embankment".

i especially like the part about "downshifting into first". i would like to see anyone do that at 25Mph.... 5 mph - yes. not at faster speed. there is a restricter on the gear box that block those shifts in case anyone misses 2-3 change and engages first gear. that will blow the gearbox...

let me tell u what probably happened.
he was going on a small road, got too cocky doing left turn, carried too much speed going in. when he went past the limit, car started to understeer (that is what all 4 wheelers do at that point). he got scared shitless, so instead of letting accelerator go to give a car a chance to regain traction (or apply brakes very gently just a bit), he did what most people do - SLAM the brakes. that is a big NO NO to do while u r in a turn, it locks up car which will understeer even more... so he missed the turn, and end up going off the road onto his right side - u can see in the picture that this is the side he lended on before tipping over.... that is what actually happened.

Well I sort of met my match this morning - had a nice run with a modded Mustang Cobra. Yeah - it was very slick and my did that supercharger whine like a mufa! Off the line I pretty much stayed ahead of him to about 65-70 - 1/2 car length give or take (some jockying with me always slightly ahead) - but when I shifted into 3rd I didn't do it quick enough to fully sustain boost - with that little lag he pulled ahead smartly - really a sight (and sound)....we eased off after that and talked a bit waiting at the next (long) light - his first question was - "Is that thing real?" (as I'm badged as an RS4 [previous owner did it...) - I told him no - he asked about my mods - and then told me his other car is a 2000 S4 - and that he loves it - but not nearly as quick as mine! Don't know what he had done to the stang but he said that he had worked it up a bit - I have to say I've never heard supers whine like that except in a vid of a modded 500+ hp BMW M3 that I saw on video once. It was very sweet. Anyway I felt I aquitted myself well - for a wagon - but boy he had some quickness. We drove along quickly after that but as there was some traffic (and later a cop - where there may have been the opurtunity for anoher run) we never did another head to head. It was the first time I've ever run with a Cobra - though I've discussed it with a guy I know who has one (also modded) - we both concluded he probably woulf take me...

Just gotta chime in one more time, The Sti is lighter than a B5 and a B6, thats always a factor. I'm a scooby guy at heart and have researched them to the point of stupidity. I don't see me ever leaving the ranks of the 4 circles but the Sti is a wickedly fasst car. Very few cars can touch it head to head in stock config. (Evo handles better but Sti quicker straight)

more .02 from me to you
