Default Thump Noise when gear disengaging?

Hi!

I just bought a 2011 s4 3 weeks ago (500 miles on in). This is my first S4 and now I know I was missing out BIG time. It's an incredible car and I wake up early in the weekend just to drive it. (sorry about the newbie talk but I'm sure you all understand having that moment

But I'm a bit confused by this noise I sometimes get when depressing the clutch pedal (right when a gear disengages). It's like a thump or sometimes clunk noise that mostly happens when accelerating. I can feel a sold vibration (like something hard hit a gearbox once) on the stick shift when that happens. I can't always replicate it but it seems to happen more often if the gas pedal release before stepping into the Clutch is slightly delayed....but again, not always....and randomly happens on all gear shifts, though very rarely in 5-6.

I was wondering if anybody else had the same thing or can tell me if it's a normal thing....

I've never hah anything like this on my previous cars (RSX-s, eclipse gsx, and wrx) so I'm a bit naive....

Also.....my sunroof is already squeaking when it's closing if nothing wrong with my clutch or trans, then I guess I'll go get a silicon grease and forget the dealer....I hope that's the case.

Well, whatever it is.. I'm proud to be an s4 owner and hopefully i can contribute to this forum. Thanks!

That thump could be a worn transmission mount, diff mount, engine mount, or snub mount. I'd take a look at those for signs of wear, leakage, or cracking. As for the sunroof, I've been advised to lubricate the slides with white lithium grease.

Congrats on your new car - want a real eye-opening experience? Upgrade your diverter valves and chip the car

Thnx inthedevil. I'll be thinking about upgrading soon as I still have 700 miles to go for break-in. As for the strange noise, I'll check what you say...but probably take into the dealer and show them exactly what happens to get their opinion. Thnx also for the lithium grease thing. I'll go get it tomorrow!
