Default turbo noise

Are the turbos supposed to whistle or are they supposed to be quiet?
Thanks

They should whistle a little with a stock Syou should barley be able to hear it, if they make a noise like a drill then your in trouble.

Engine warm, windows down you should hear a slight whistle. Louder whistle if you can drive next to a concrete barrier or something to let the sound resonate off of. I can't hear much of my turbos over the wind noise after 3rd gear. Maybe a little in fourth if driving slowly.

Engine warm windows up I can't hear the turbos at all.

Engine cold windows up I can hear a little whine, but not much

Current car is stock, I had a chipped B5 before and I can't really tell any difference in noise levels between chipped vs non-chipped. I could definitely hear the turbos more with the K&N intake though, especially when shifting.

yeah I will second what meatbiscuit said about the turbos. I have 87K on mine and after I put in a K&N airfilter did they get slightly more noticable.

Id like to hear a good sound clip of the turbo noise from piggies vs non-piggies. There are a few out there, but theyre not very high quality, cant really hear much.

unless you put a new full exhaust system, they probably won't be that loud. Not as loud as a turbo off a 18 wheeler[sm=wootwoot.gif]

Haha, I'd love that. Those diesels have a turbo the size of salad plates
