Default Turning off Check Engine Light (CEL) for inspection

I know there's a million CEL posts here, but I couldn't find what I needed. I have a busted ABS module that's blowing the CEL. Is there any way to turn it off for inspection and not have it pop up when they run through the drive cycle? I heard that diconnecting the + terminal on the battery would turn it off, but then how soon after that does the light come back on? My car runs just great without the damn ABS and it's freakin stupid that it would blow a check engine light.

Thanks for the help!

you can try disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes and then reconnecting. sometimes that resets the computer and will turn off the CEL, however, if there is an underlying issue with your car the light will come back. usually the ABS module problem doesn't cause the CEL though. If the ABS module is bad you will get the "three beeps" on start up and blinking brake light on the dash.

See if you can hook up with someone that has a vag-com. they can check your codes and clear your CEL. The alternative is to get your car scanned with a "generic" code reader. That way you can diagnose why the CEL is on and see about getting it fixed. post back the results after you get it scanned.
