Default Wacky boost issues, recently chipped

ok so i just got my chip in on friday, and i've been drivin around town most of the time. its would spike to 18 then waiver around 16-17. i took it out on the highway for the first time today to see how the top end was, it sucked! boost would drop as low as 10 and hang there after like 4000 rpms. what is the issue here? i have a near stock engine with just an intake and forge dv's, so i thought it should hold the pressure fine. i know to expect a 1-3 psi drop from the spiking point but all the way down to 8? come on! if i install a j valve (ecs race valve) do you think that would be the problem? i have a small feeling its the wastegate bleeding off after a while, but i thought the chip fixed that? any suggestions, comments, ideas?

Sound's to me like your newly found boost may have created a boost leak.... do you have a tester?

no i dont. i dont think its a leak tho, because as it drops to 10ish psi, it will spike up to 14, then goes back down to 10 slowely. ill see if i can get a video of the boost gauge in action. i was reading about the n75 race valve, and it sounds like it only helps peak boost, and then returns normal operating pressure.
