Default Worth buying a 2000-2002 S4

right now i currently have a 1999 Saleen mustang Vert 5sp and a 1997 Explorer will be getting rid of the explorer in the spring and will need to find a new winter/every day car so i dont ruin the stang. now are they cars reliable if i just bump up the boost a little? also i drive my mustang pretty hard have had it for 2 year and have just a little under 70 1/4 passes on it and havent had 1 problem will the S4 be as reliable or should i look into buying an other car? thanks

Which S4 are you looking at buying?

But the simple answer is no. It won't be as reliable or cheap to fix as the Mustang if you're beating on it. Drag launches are not exactly friendly to AWD cars. Or driving over curbs like you would in an SUV

If you drive it easy, then you'll be fine... it u drive it hard, then it wont be as reliable. the parts are expensive, but all in all it's a great car and i love it as a DD, even tho i have to replace stuff from time to time.

BTW how are the rustang times?

I've only owned my S4 for about half a year, and I haven't had any problems with it. But then I am sort of on the young side, and tend to not ram on the gas pedal a lot so my repairs are kept to a minimum. But everynow and then I'll gun it just to remind myself how AWESOME my car is. Bumping up the boost will put more strain on your drivetrain, so yes, there is a chance that something will break faster than if it wasn't boosted higher. But I think it really all depends on how you drive it. Or if you get a chip, try and get one that you can turn on and off, so then the strain is kept to a minimum. All of this is just my opinion, its up to you.

Thanks for the replies and no way would I beat on the car like I would my mustang so it looks it to me that I will be purchasing a 2000-2002 s4 in the future so if I lightly mod it and don't do 4k launchs and powershift with the car it shouldnt give me any big problems...correct

Two things that you can do that will raise the reliability of the car are DV's and the Bi-Pipe, the bi pipe seems to solve a couple factory problems and the diverters are almost a must with a chip. Something to keep in mind. A stage II s4 is some what more reliable than stock... in most cases. Just dont beat the **** out of it and you'll be in the clear like almost anything.
