Lifter/rocker tick due to oil type/weight?
Hi all new to the forum.
Anyway, I picked up a '05 S4 Cabrio a couple days ago from a used car dealer, It was a one owner car, 136k miles meticulous maintenance records from the audi dealer, and the used dealer had the timing set serviced prior to purchase.
Well I've put about 300 miles on the car (driving it home from the used car dealer) and it seems like the lifters and/or rockers are ticking louder then when I test drove it. It doesn't do the loud clatter at startup for the first 1.5-2 seconds like I've seen on others via youtube. It could just be paranoia because its a new car to me but I'm really hoping its not something messed up in the timing set because $$$$$. The invoice from the shop that serviced the timing set says they put 5w30 in it along with the timing service kit was something like $700 (so i'm assuming it was just the guides and seals not the whole complete timing replacement) along with other seals and what not.
So what I suspect is the shop put conventional 5w30 in it when the car calls for fully-synthetic 0w40 and thats whats causing my noice? I did check the oil level to make sure it was with-in tolerance. It almost sounds like my Jeep when the oil level is 1-2 quarts low. I have an appt with the local audi dealer to look at it along with doing some other small things but they can't get me in until saturday. I don't like my new (to me) S4 sitting in the garage thinking there might be something major wrong with it.
I don't really want to drive the 300 miles back to the used dealer unless I know for sure something major is wrong with the car. If its something small, I can take care of it myself no problem just wasn't looking at pulling the engine out. I bought this car so I was able to pull the engine out of my Lifted v8 grand cherokee for a rebuild due to consumption.
tl:dr - Will conventional 5w30 cause lifter/rocker ticks in the 4.2l's

Well no one provided an answer but I thought I'd add an update.
Talked to the audi steelership yesterday and didn't seem to think my S4 having (what I assume as conventional) 5w30 to be an issue. I'm going to call the shop that did the timing set work on it a few months ago to see if they will open it up and try and rectify the issue under warranty. Otherwise it looks like I'm down to trying the ATF clean then open the engine up if that doesn't work. If the oil type isn't an issue then its got to be a/several hydro lifters or the oil check valve.
