Shouldn't my 4.2L A6 be faster?

Default Shouldn't my 4.2L A6 be faster?

Ok I just raced with an Acura TL '05; I have an '05 Audi A6 4.2L... I had about a 2-cars length lead on the TL and my speedometer was slightly edging over 140 mph... Shouldn't the 4.2L go faster than that? Or, does it take longer to reach the 150 mph range???

I haven't made any modifications to my A6.. but I want to have a faster peel off time..since it's a heavier body I keep thinking I'll be lunch meat at a red light.

I believe the TL is a 3.5 with 280HP (that's the non Sport version) against your A6 which is 335HP. It's not that huge of a gap and like you mentioned, you have heavier body.

Also if you have Quattro, you're losing some of the power that goes there since you're running all four wheels.

I believe you can't go any faster because our cars are limited to 140. You can remove this limiter by adding an aftermarket chip. Power-wise, I don't think you'll be gaining much from the chip since you have a N/A 4.2 (let's say compare it to the turbo engine which will give about +40-50 more HP with a chip).

I would say it's not worth the $500+ to gain a bit more torque and removing speed limiter but apparently the B5 guys are going with Speedtuning chips which cost cheaper if you are interested in chipping. I never had personal experience my self since I have GIAC but the guys are happy with it. I don't know if they have the chip application for your car. Although one of the local guys I know got the chip for his B6 S4 (also with 4.2). This particular chip goes for around $200 instead of the $500+ other companies charge.

I hope that answers some of your questions.

Thanks for the tips Brother. I don't know anything about cars (let alone Audis), so I'm definitely going to be leaning on you guys for advice and knowledge. I might be interested in a turbo engine for the extra 40-50 hp (don't think that will help my car warranty though). I will wait until after the summer to decide. Since a turbo engine will probably run a few grand, I'd rather wait until I finish fixing up the exterior a little bit first before altering it performance.
