Default Strut check

I have a 1996 cabriolet. I have been developing a bump in the suspension going over bumps. Vehicle has 122,000 miles and new a-arm bushings. When I take off the tire and lift on the wheel hub, there is some play in the strut, at the full extended position. It is on both sides and I think that it is worn. Could it be a strut part other than the tube? Any suggestions. Sachs come up as original, what about KYB struts. Thanks guys

I have decided to redo the entire suspension, since once you are in there to do the struts, mize well do the other parts also. I bought the Sachs Advantage strut cartridges, strut mounts, steering tie rod ends and ball joints. I changed the control arm bushings in the last year. This should give me a total new steering and suspension feel for another 100,000 miles. Total cost of parts is about $250 and my labor. Car is 17 years old and probably deserves it anyways. I might take pics as I go along to document my progress and post it here.
