Has anyone here ever tried disabling the DSP option on their Automatic Trans with vagcom? I was curious about what affects this would have on the shifting, how it handled and such so I tried it the other day.
What is DSP?
DSP independently selects the optimum driving range. The transmission automatically recognizes the vehicle’s driving characteristics and adapts its shift strategy to the prevailing conditions.
When not using Tiptronic mode I sometimes had these crazy gear hunting and extremely odd shifting patters. For example I would accelerate heavily then lay off and try cruising then the car would stay in the lower gear revving high for more than a few seconds which really annoyed me. I also had some really harsh shifts occasionally. Come to find out it was the DSP was causing this and disabling it resolved the above issues. Gear shifting in general seems to be more smooth which is really nice. I am not sure of the specific reason for why DSP was causing this but I am assuming it deals with the algorithm it uses being not adequate for the mods and HP gains I have added since I started modding.
Now I am not going to say disabling DSP is the way to go. The acceleration does not throw you in you seat as much when you first floor it, its more gradual. Same amount of HP just not right from the start throwing you in your seat.
So would I run with DSP off all the time? Hell no I love being thrown back in my seat way to much but it is nice to be able to have a smooth shifting ride sometimes and the option to switch to it. If anyone is interested I can make a write-up on how to turn off an on DSP with the vagcom and some other things I came across when playing with this. I figured I would ask first and not waste my time since most of us here on the forums are manuals.

Jovian_ I was just looking through some old posts about DSP and came across this. Can you tell me how to turn the DSP feature off using VAG-COM? I am really interested in trying this.
