VAGCOM inquiry

VAGCOM inquiry
I was wondering will any interface cable work with the vagcom software long as it runs through your obd2? If I purchase the software from them for 100 bucks and the interface cable off this guy on ebay selling them for 20 bucks. I could save 180 bucks or so. But if it won't work then its not worth it.
Thanks in Advance.

i just broke down and bought their cable and software cuz i didn't wanna take any chances of missing codes or any compatability issues. Considering we have AUDI's makin sure we can correctly diagnose our own car problems will save us A LOT of money we will need later on to fix our forever breaking cars.

You can usually get the cable off ebay and use the software that comes with it (which can just be downloaded from ross-tech.com's site). To note, I have had troubles connecting to certain models of audi's. It works flawlessly in my '99 A6 but doesn't work very well in my friends '98 A4 (1.8T chipped), only a few of the modules can be accessed.
Buying the cable would be a very good investment! If it does work well then you will be able to read all the error codes and even do a little diagnostic stuff, not to mention changing the codings of modules. I have to mention that if you PM me I'll let you know how to get the software to think that it is the full retail version which let me fix a few things that I otherwise could not (it has to be done through PM as to protect myself from legal concerns). So basically - this $20 cable will be one of the most cost efficient tools you'll ever buy!
More specifically speaking, the USB cable is the most typically used one on this forum and by me personally. I haven't used the serial-port connectors, but they should be able to be used just the same. The settings for the cable are all within the software (you get COM1, 2, 3 or 4 to choose from basically). When you put the OSBII USB cable in your computer, it sees it as a USB-COM device and registers it as such. For me, I had to change the address of the cable from COM7 to COM2 within Window's Device Manager. Any other questions?

Some of the cables from Ebay are known to have problems reading the modules on Audi / VWs. This one is known to work well with them.
