Dude tbh my power steering pump has been leaking for about 8 months now. I've added lucas stop leak about 8 times now and my fluid is like redish/pink and i've been running just find for almost 3 months. No problems at all. So i dont think you should have any worries

well i have full fluid in mine and mine does NOT work. it is like turning an 18 wheeler steering wheel at a dead stop. PITA unless i am moving. think it is time for a new one! I love the neglect of the PO's :/

Try a flush and fill, cycle it, and flush/fill again. If it's still bad either your pump or your rack (or both) are shot.

What Jeremy said but I'll elaborate more. Unhook ps cooler hose and run it dry(empty it). The refill and repeat. Then refill and see what happens.

With line detached turn steering wheel back and forth to push fluid out the refill turn wheel back and forth the refill system. Then repeat to drain and repeat to fill.

Exactly. IF you want to go all-out, open the front of the car, take off the belt on the pump, pop off a line to the reservoir, and use a 4" disc on a drill, pressed against the face of the pulley. Fire it up and drive all the fluid out. Reattach the line, fill it, burp it, and run the engine a half hour, then repeat the flush like Jeff described.

I was just thinking use the steering to push it out. A little easier don't you think?

You'll know you have no more fluid when the pump starts whining real loud. Watch the hose cause you don't want to run your rack too dry. You could honestly leave the system open for reflush. I hate to say it but your going to be wasting $'s cause I would run audi approved fluid only through the system. You could run the dirty fluid back through the clean. Then reuse clean a second time. The brand new clean for final.

Using the steering to clear it is definitely easier - I only mention that method because I don't know whether steering pressure is enough to fully empty the rack.
