Default Back light switch

Hi Folks,
I'm back --can anyone supply with a picture of the location of the back light switch?
1991 Audi 100 automatic

Thanks,

Whether it is auto or stick, the backup light switch should be activated by the gearshift lever. That means under the console between the seats.

Cheers,

I realize that--I have console apart and still can not locate.
I know what the replacement part looks like but can not see a similar parts in gear shift area.
I do not want to tear things apart until I know exact locale.
It looks like I may have to take gear shifter off but as stated above I want to do it as easily as possible.

Pretty sure it's the same transmission as a 91 90 with an automatic.
Look under the car, above the catalytic converter and the heat shield in the hump where the shifter should be. Pain in the a$$ to get to.

Actually, there might not be a switch, per se.

I think, though it has been a while since I have pulled the console cover, that there are wipers and copper contacts at the bottom of the gear selector, under the console cover. More likely you have either a blown fuse for the backup lights, or no contact in the wiper in reverse. Why reverse, I don't know.

Other than that, others have mentioned for other reasons, that the wiring runs along the left trunk deck hinge, and some, under the trunk lining, the hinged part of the rear deck rubs, crushes the wires. Bitch to get to, you have to lay yourself in the trunk to work on them.

Cheers,

George
