I haven't looked at a 4.2 in the allroad, but Audi is pretty good about making the filter easy to find and change. You have to take off the big plastic cover under the engine.
It is held on with 1/4 turn fasteners and is easy to remove. It takes a little bit of fiddling to put it back on the first time, but with practice it gets easy. Oil change places are famous for neglecting to replace the fasteners, resulting in the cover coming off on the drive home. $$ to replace, and the shop will deny all knowledge and liability.
Once the cover is off, the drain and filter are usually on the same side, easy to reach. Good luck.

Thanks Jasper I read a thread about what a pain it was to change the filter on an Allroad & got spooked then irritated when I couldn't locate it under the car. Well after much looking I found it under the little engine cover on top & @ the back of the engine. It is a cartriage type filter.
Had a similar problem changing the oil in my wifes Phaeton. Filter was under the passenger side air intake and a cartridge type so it doesn't look like an oil filter. Took me a couple of hours to figure it out.
Hi, Im new to this forum, being a recent Audi owner. I have a UK A6 2004 1.9TDi. Having trouble finding the plug to drain the oil, and the oil filter, is it enclosed in a cylinder shape plastic housing to the right handside of the car, as thats all I can find that could be it?
Thanks in advance
