2.8 metal oil pan gasket???
I have a slow leak that I'm fixing and I tracked it down to the lower pan gasket. Anyhow, I pulled the pan and there is a super thin metal gasket. Is that normal on Audi's? I know the previous owner replaced a cracked pan and am not sure which gasket he put on. I was just going to lay a thick silicone bead around the pan, would that work ok?
Yea, I used rtv blue and it's seeping through a little. I have to change the oil again so I will just redo the sealant too. Is it a sealant I can get at an auto parts store or just the dealer?
How shold I put the sealant on that I got from the glass shop? I'm not sure if I should let it sit for any amount of time before reinstalling the pan. It's a good thing that I pulled the pan to reseal it because some of the rtv sucked up into the pump screen and was about 75% covered, dodged a bullet there.
Yeah thats why you have to be careful of how much silicone you put on there when installing the pan, this is what the bead should look like. Don't wait longer than 5 minutes after laying down the bead to install it back onto the car.
