A lot of info about speakers and such on the forum.

I have an '02 A4 Avant with the Bose Symphony system. It sounds pretty good for a factory unit. When the volume goes up the bass seems to get pretty muddy.
I have 2 tasks. First, replace the front speakers (they are blown...not sure how...just started to scratch when playing and now they dont work most of the time) I visited crutchfield and it says that speakers from 5-1/4 to 6-3/4 will fit. I took a look at the mesh grill and if the grill is any indicator, the speaker looks more like a 4 inch'er to me. Any one have an idea what the factory size is? I will probably try to get some MB Quarts to replace the front speakers. If the front is indeed a 6.5 inch speaker, I may just opt for the eD speakers instead of MB Quarts.

I plan to use an eD 13Ov.2 woofer and will need an amp for it. I was wondering if anyone had filtered the main speaker inputs to the factory amp for better frequency control over the mids?

you know you can pick up a 2004 ed 13Kv.2 d4 for 50 plus shipping right now its a bad *** deal

 

You'll have to replace the amp too. With the Bose, the speakers are 2 ohm not the normal 4.

Yes the amp must be replaced if you get new speakers. I've done the whole replacement on my current avant - if you need help just PM me.
