Default 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro.. Brakes lights staying on.

Hello my brake lights are staying on when the car is running, hiwrver when the car is off the brake lights work normally. The dash continues to have the ABS warning light, flashing BRAKE warning light, as well as telling me the HandBrake is applied. I've replaced the Brake pedal switch, as well as all of my fuses. What do i do?

Also my cruise control doesnt work. Any ideas?

Have you changed the bulbs recently? They are not the same as the other bulbs, the brake lights use 1157 and the others are 1156.

There is also a 15 AMP fuse under the hood next to the ECU fuse that could cause that issue.

Or, you got another faulty brake light switch or it wasn't installed/adjusted properly. Did you hold the pedal down and put the switch in and then release the pedal? or how did you install the switch?

Here's the procedure from another site:
Removing

Remove driver's storage compartment
Unplug electrical connector.
Turn brake light switch anti-clockwise 45 degrees to remove.

Installing

Installation is performed in reverse sequence; note the following:

Pull out plunger of brake light switch as far as it will go.

Note: On some types of brake light switch it is not necessary to pull out the plunger.

Insert retainer tabs of switch in recesses provided in mounting assembly and secure by turning clockwise 45 degrees.
Attach plug for brake light switch.

Note: When installing, brake pedal must not be pressed.

- The plunger adjusts itself automatically when the brake light switch is inserted.
Check operation of brake lights both with brake pedal pressed and at rest.
