Default 99' a4 no cruise control, vaccume leak??

My cruise control has been funny since I have bought my car around 3 years ago. If i turn it on, it will go on for around 20 minutes through maybe an hour, then kick off... It won't turn back on until the unit has 'cooled' down, or something. I have seen some posts that there is a faulty switch in there, but before I go taking apart my steering wheel to get at that circuit board, does my problem sound like a vaccume leak or strictly electrical?

Thanks for any input you guys provide

It's not the sleep timer, because it wont go back on for around 1 hour after it dies... hehe I drive alot of highway and it makes things alot easier.

No you don't have any vaccume line problems causing the issue. If it has all of the sudden stopped working all of the time check your brake lights (the cuise control on alot of cars is shut off by the brake lights and a bad bulb disables the cruise control).

I've had the same type of problem and haven't been able to fix it yet-A4 99.5.
Basically your cruise control consists of according to Haynes:
-the servo motor
-cruise control module (inside the dash-behind top part of dash) guy on e-bay checks and fixes these (wasn't my problem)
-vacuum pump
-brake & clutch vent valves located on pedals (rarely the problem) don't waste ur $.
-vacuum signal amplifier (haven't explored this one yet)

The brake lights either not functioning or wrong bulbs can cause cruise control probs. Best place to start looking.

Also a long rod connects to the throttle body make sure that the rod is connected (clipped in) to the rubbervacuum thingy under the throttle body.
