a4 2.6 v6 1996 starter motor

Default a4 2.6 v6 1996 starter motor

My starter motor needs replacing so I have unbolted itbut I cannot manouver it out of the engine bay. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also does anyone know where I can get a workshop manual?

you have to drop the exhaust on that side and they dont do a workshop manual for it

HI, THANKS FOR THE INFO ON THE STARTER MOTOR,BUT HAVE JUST FOUND OUT THE PROBLEM IS THE INGITION SWITCH .I NEED TO REMOVE IT ,I HAVE REMOVED THE TOP COVER ON THE STEERING COLUMN BUT THE BOTTOM COVER WILL NOT COME OFF.I WAS GOING TO REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL BUT DO NOT KNOW HOW TO & AM A BIT APPREHENSIVE ABOUT THE AIR BAG,CAN YOU HELP?. REGARDS RICH.

There was a factory recall for ignition switches in those years. Why don't you check with your dealer first?
I just got a card on mine but haven't got to a dealer yet.

I WILL GET TO A DEALER AS SOON AS I CAN,IN THE MEANTIME I WOULD STILL LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. REGARDS RICH.

Repairing driver's airbag[/align]Removing and installing steering wheel[/align]

‒Remove airbag unit
‒Centre the steering wheel (wheels in straight-ahead position).
‒Unscrew bolt -8[size=-1]9-.
‒Detach connectors -12[size=-1]13 and 14[size=-1]15-. [/ul]
â—†Installing

‒Attach steering wheel in centre position (wheels straight ahead).
‒Ensure that the connectors and the airbag engage fully (i.e. audibly).
‒Replace bolt -24[size=-1]25- and tighten to 60 Nm.
‒Install airbag unit[/ul][/ul]

I HAVE REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH (THE OLD ONE WAS CRACKED & RETURN SPRING DISPLACED) BUT ENGINE STILL WONT START. THE STARTER MOTOR SPINS WHEN I JUMP THE TWO MAIN TERMINALS ON IT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT COULD BE THE RELAY,BUT CANNOT LOCATE IT.

Hi,thanks for your help,I have replaced the starter motor & Ignition switch(which was cracked & return spring displaced)But engine still refuses to start.The starter motor spins when i jump the two main terminals on it, I have been told that it could be the starter relay, but cannot locate it.
