A4 b6 engine light on and starts up in low revs
Hi, just to lay out straight first, i am no car expert.
I have an A4 1.8t, and recently the engine light came on. I also noticed that when i start my car in the morning it no longer starts at high revs just above 1000. as soon as i start it, it drops to below 1000 revs and idles there.
this never happened before and was wondering if any of you guys know what caused this, before i go to the mechanic's who will probably tell me i need new pistons or something!!
Thanks

The cold start idle thing is something I and others have noticed happen more in very cold temps/winter. As soon as you start it, on a cold start, rpms go straight to 800-900 rpms -where they should be at idle anyway. I have heard that is normal, but only in near freezing temps. If this all of a sudden started happening along with the CEL, Id guess your ECTS is bad. But all that could be wayoff... So ya, go to autozone and they will scan your ecu for free and print out any stored fault codes for you. Do that then post back.
thanks guys, im in London, no autozone here... but will get the codes and post back.
also when i used to start the car for the first 30 seconds or so its noise was completley different, kind of a deep sound then that used to turn off and then after a minute or so the revs used to go down to 800-900.
its stopped doing that.
but will report back with codes.
