Default Airbag light

Hello:

Does anyone know a quick fix for an airbag light? I have a 2001 A4 1.8T. The light came on a few months ago and has stayed on since. Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions.

there is a yello and purple conector underneath your driver's side seat. zip-tie it shut and wait for the code to go off by itself. or unhook the battery for about 30 minutes.. problem solved

thanks Sean, what specifically do you mean by zip-tying the connector? Just want to make sure I don't do something wrong.

Use a zip tie to physically hold the two halves of the connection together - to keep the two plugs from separating. It's a common problem on our cars. Mine is currently on also, because when detailing the car one day, I slid the seat all the way back. It must've put a little stress on the seat airbag connection, pulling it slightly apart and tripping the airbag light. By using a zip tie to hold the connection tight and solid, you can keep the fault from recurring. Zip tie it tightly, and then do as sean1.8t suggests (or turn it off with a VAGCOM if you have access to one), and you should be good to go.

zip-tie it shut. bacically just what it sounds.. just make sure that the connectors are as tight together as possible and tie them together so they won't come apart

Should I disconnect the battery before messing with the connector? If this doesn't work, is there a relatively inexpensive reader I can buy to reset the fault code?

In case it's needed, would something like this do the job?:

That code reader will turn off the light. Here is a list of code readers for VAG.

So if all you want to do it turn off a light, there shouldn't be any difference between a reader costing $50 and one costing $150.
