Yikes get your car looked at. I would not drive it again. Could be a bad camshaft sensor or timing belt slipped a tooth. Is the car running fine?

i have not driven it since the CEL came on a few days ago. last night i ran vag-com, got that code and cleared it. this morning i started it up for the first time since the CEL came on, and it ran rough for a few seconds then i shut it off. CEL was still on.

Are you able to do your own maintenance? Replacing the camshaft position sensor is pretty easy.

If that code is accurate, I would imagine that that wire goes straight to the ECU, might do a "quick" continuity check from the cam sensor to the ECU. You'd have to get some extra wire to extend the range of your multimeter (assuming ya got one).
