Default B5 Engine issue

long story short my cousins car goes nuts when u start it check engine light misfiring all over the place hardly gets past 40mph. 98 a4 quattro 1.8t. vagged the car and the code that came up was P0302.... cylinder 2. we switched the coilpacks around same code. so now we're thinkin injectors, are removing the injectors difficult or pretty straight foward? we want to switch them around to see if it throws the code for a different cyclinder. ideas or advice anyone? as always thank you in advance.

1st thing... NEVER drive the car while the CEL is flashing!!
You have to remove the fuel rail to get to the injectors which is pretty straight forward. Just make sure the engine has been off for a while and the gas cap is off so the fuel pressure isnt great when you remove it/injectors, if you do that. On the 2000 and up model, im not sure where or if there is a ignition control module. I will try to look that up later, because that may be your problem. Its very rare that these cars have bad injectors, but it wouldnt be difficult to swap one to try and track the problem.
The fuel rail is under the engine cover to the right of the valve cover in the intake manifold. There should be only 2 bolts that hold it down. Lift it up and then unplug the injectors and pull them out and swap. I would be considering ICM, spark plug, coil pack wiring, injector.. In that order. Have you pulled the #2 cyl. spark plug to check its condition?

OH its your cousins 98 thats having the problem... I thought it was your car.. The ICM is kinda pricey, so in this case i would swap the injectors and change the plugs to be sure since you already know its not a coil pack problem.. Thatll cost about $8 in trouble shooting. Cant beat that!
make sure you tell your cousin to NOT drive the car while the CEL is flashing. He could be doing serious damage to the engine by doing that.

I have the same problem on my car.....cylinder two. Your problem is most likely your power output control module. It is what sends the signal to the coilpacks to fire. Don't even waste your time with the injectors. Check this by taking off the two bolts that hold on the coilpack and with the car running pull it off of the spark plug but hold it down in the cylinder. you should see and hear it arcing from the coilpack to the spark plug. If you don't, then this is most likely your problem. If it is arcing, then your spark plug is bad or you have an injector problem. But check for spark first!

It sounds like your ignition control module on top of your airbox. aka power output stage control unit from audi.
