Curious...

Why are you undoing your mod?

It runs better without it. The main thing I am concerned about is that I cut the "horn" thing that is inside the airbox that goes in front of the maf. It was talked about in the original write up in the first page or 2 of this thread. Didnt really understand what its purpose was, but im thinking it was there to direct air to the maf more efficiantly or something. Plus the mod makes you feel more laggy bellow 2500 rpms... and thats something that someone with tip doest want.

Well that stinks. I printed out the guide, got my tools all set, went outside, popped my hood and realized I don't even know where the hell the airbox IS in my Audi...

Can anyone tell me where it is? I THINK it's on the passenger side over the tire well? I have a 98' 2.8Q, any advise?

Also, if this IS where it's located, do I need to cut it out? Because I can't see any screws/bolts holding it in place, it looks like it's connected to the body of the car (the outside side of the engine)?

Thanks!

Haha... ya the airbox is on the passenger side, right behind the head light. Got to take the plastic cover off on the airbox to expose the top of it. After you see it, follow the directions you saw on pg. 1 er whatever... Its pretty simple. Once you get in there its pretty obvious what clamps need to be taken off to lift the box out.

Anyway... I actually just got done putting a stock air box back in... WOW so much quieter... I do miss the growl and louder spool up, but it is noticeably ballsier down low, just as I had missed. If I dont sell my hacked box, I may put it back in during the cooler months.. I know this hot weather wasnt helping anything with the air box mod. If anyone is interested, I have already quoted someone $35 to take the hacked box off my hands. I'll stick to that price if he decides he does'nt want it.

BTW I also kept the screen in place because there are still holes in my fender that i cut out. There is a flap on the inside/bottom of the stock airbox that can still open so i thought it was a good idea to keep the screen in. Next time I want a growl or louder engine noise im getting an exhaust..

Well, I did it!

I did the Airbox mod, but I used the 5/8" holes.

When I went to put on the screen that I found in my girlfriend's house, it broke, so I was forced to save the screening for today- but when I woke up, IT WAS RAINING CATS AND DOGS OUT..

I drove to work doing my normal 80-90 on the highway (for about 30-40 miles) and check my Airbox when I got out to find that it was completely dry.

I'm getting screening today for it, but FYI, even without screening I got NO water in my airbox driving through terencial downpours.

You are lucky. I wouldnt advise ANYONE to do what ^this^ guy did... If you are gunna do the mod, at least do it right before exposing that $3,500 hunk of metal under your hood to the elements... It would be sad to hear someone tell us they got hydrolock in their engine just because they heard someone else didnt have a problem with it.

To a certain point....... But ya... It would take a crap load of water to saturate the filter and get past the maf.

Ok so can someone tell me if the below PRO's and CON's list is correct?

PROS: better throttle response high end, louder turbo, DV sound, better intake sound (growl).

CONS: less pull on the low end, risk of moisture, cutting holes in things, heat soak.

please add to or take away from the list as necessary.
